Rock founded, Christ centered, Faith sustained

Many thanks to the good people of the Harvest Church and their Pastor Steve Henry for opening their doors to our use of this church building today! The First United Methodist Church of Arroyo Grande resided here from September of 1887 until September of 1960.

People: Lord, hear us.
Pastor: Make wisdom our guide - help us walk in newness of life.
People: Lord, hear us.
Pastor: Lord, give us your strength in our weakness - when we meet problems give us courage to face them.
People: Lord, hear us.
Pastor: Direct our thought, our words, our actions today - so that we may know, and do, your will.
People: Lord, hear us.

Gloria Patri (Standing and singing)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

Choral Anthem: “Ave Verum” (“Jesu, Word of God Incarnate”) - W.A. Mozart

“A Collect for the Renewal of Life” - Pastor David Burgeson
O God, the King eternal, whose light divides the day from the night and turns the shadow of death into the morning: Drive far from us all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep your law, and guide our feet into the way of peace; that, having done your will with cheerfulness during the day, we may, when night comes, rejoice to give you thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hymn: “Faith of Our Fathers” (Standing and singing)

1. Faith of our fathers, living still,
In spite of dungeon, fire, and sword;
Oh, how our hearts beat high with joy
Whene’er we hear that glorious Word!

Refrain:

Faith of our fathers, holy faith!
We will be true to thee till death.

2. Faith of our fathers, we will strive
To win all nations unto thee;
And through the truth that comes from God,
We all shall then be truly free. [Refrain]

3. Faith of our fathers, we will love
Both friend and foe in all our strife;
And preach thee, too, as love knows how
By kindly words and virtuous life. [Refrain]

Psalm 67 (King James Version) - Pastor David Burgeson
God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations. Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us. God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.

Apostles’ Creed (Standing and reading in unison)
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried: He descended into hell; The third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The holy catholic Church; The Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body, And the Life everlasting. Amen.

Lord’s Prayer (Reading in unison)
Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
