CALL TO WORSHIP*
God of rain and harvest,
God of the humble and the hopeful,
You draw us in to be renewed by Your presence.
We come as those who long for Your restoration,
yet confess we often look for it in our own strength.
We come as people blessed and broken,
hungry for the mercy that lifts the lowly.
Open our eyes to see Your restoring work in our midst.
Open our hearts to be part of it.
In this worship, let our praise rise,
let our hope deepen and let our love overflow.
OPENING HYMN* Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me No. 361
WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
OPENING PRAYER
Lord our God, You yourself remind us through Your holy people
that all our religious practices, even the eucharistic sacrifice,
are not worth anything if we use them to bend You our way.
God, may we come to You in humility and repentance,
ready to encounter You in love and to turn toward You.
Accept us as Your sons and daughters, together with Jesus Christ,
your Son and our Lord for ever.
CHILDREN’S MOMENT Carolyn Russell

BENEDICTION*
What greater joy can we know that to go home justified because of our humility
before God who redeems? Let us leave this place to live as we came in openly
and desiring to praise God and witness to a saving love. May we go in humble
grace. In Christ’s name. Amen.

Luke 18:9-14
9 Jesus also told this parable to people who were sure of their own goodness and
despised everybody else. 10 “Once there were two men who went up to the Temple to
pray: one was a Pharisee, the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood apart by
himself and prayed‘ I thank you, God, that I am not greedy, dishonest, or an adulterer,
like everybody else. I thank you that I am not like that tax collector over there. 12 I fast
two days a week, and I give you one tenth of all my income.’ 13 But the tax collector
stood at a distance and would not even raise his face to heaven, but beat on his breast
and said, ‘God, have pity on me, a sinner!’ 14 I tell you,” said Jesus, “the tax collector,
and not the Pharisee, was in the right with God when he went home. For those who
make themselves great will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be
made great.”
