CALL TO WORSHIP*
People of God, why are you here?
We gather to worship with our hearts and our lives.
People of God, who do you worship?
We worship God, who loves us and teaches us to love.
People of God, how do you worship?
We worship God by breaking the bonds of injustice and freeing the oppressed.
People of God, come, let us worship God, whose glory surrounds us!
May our worship demonstrate God’s glory in our neighborhood, community, and the
whole earth.
OPENING HYMN* Pass It On No. 572
WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
OPENING PRAYER
God of compassion and justice, the worship you choose for us is to loose the bonds
of injustice, to let the oppressed go free, to share bread with the hungry, to shelter
the homeless poor. Then your light shall break forth like the dawn and your healing
shall spring up quickly. So, in praise and wonder, we come to worship you not just
with our words but with our hearts and our lives. Glory and honor be to you, O God,
Creator of a new heaven and a new earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
SCRIPTURE Matthew 5:13-20
CHILDREN AND YOUTH MOMENT
We invite all children and youth to participate in this intergenerational time of learning about Jesus
O God, we thank you for blessing us with the gift of children.
May they learn the stories of Jesus. May we share their joy. Amen.

As we have been fed, we go to feed the hungry. As we have been set free, we go to set free
the imprisoned. As we have been received we give. As we have heard we proclaim.
And may the blessing which we have received from the Creator, Christ, and Holy Spirit
be always with us. Amen.

Bold - Congregational Reading
Matthew 5:13-20
13 “You are like salt for the whole human race. But if salt loses its saltiness, there is no
way to make it salty again. It has become worthless, so it is thrown out and people
trample on it. 14 “You are like light for the whole world. A city built on a hill cannot be
hid. 15 No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl; instead it is put on the lamp stand,
where it gives light for everyone in the house. 16 In the same way your light must shine
before people, so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in
heaven. 17 “Do not think that I have come to do away with the Law of Moses and the
teachings of the prophets. I have not come to do away with them, but to make their
teachings come true. 18 Remember that as long as heaven and earth last, not the least
point nor the smallest detail of the Law will be done away withnot until the end of all
things. 19 So then, whoever disobeys even the least important of the commandments
and teaches others to do the same, will be least in the Kingdom of heaven. On the other
hand, whoever obeys the Law and teaches others to do the same, will be great in the
Kingdom of heaven. 20 I tell you, then, that you will be able to enter the Kingdom of
heaven only if you are more faithful than the teachers of the Law and the Pharisees in
doing what God requires.
